The People Awards Judging Panel is a highly experienced team of business travel professionals headed up by chairman Mark Cuschieri. Read on to find out more about the judging panel.


Mark Cuschieri, Independent Chair of Judges

Mark has worked in the corporate travel industry for 25+ years. Mark has held roles as a Travel Buyer and Supplier. In his early career he held a number of travel operational, account management and strategic sourcing management roles within American Express GBT and Expedia Inc. Has a track record of travel procurement and operational strategy.  

He joined UBS in 2007 and responsible for the overall strategic management of the Global travel program in over 50 countries. Mark is an experienced change maker and has a thorough understanding of corporate travel & expense management. He has successfully aligned the global/regional business travel programme with a primary focus on delivering simplified and effective business process, cost efficiency and client engagement satisfaction.

Mark is the appointed Chairman of the Institute of Travel Management, a not-for-profit association for business travel, representing over 3,000 buyer and supplier members. Mark is a frequently requested event speaker and sits on the GBTA Strategic Benchmarking Group. Mark was awarded the GBTA Luoma award in 2012 for services to the European travel and meetings industry.  

He is a non-Executive Director of Xenia Intl, an Italian based hotel technology company


Paul Wait, Chief Executive of the GTMC

Paul Wait, a 43 year Industry Veteran, is the chief executive of the GTMC. The boy from Birkenhead has forgotten more about business travel than some of us will ever know. He held senior positions at American Express and Virgin Atlantic before joining the GTMC in January 2013. When not driving the GTMC’s industry leading key strategic initiatives, he is a keen golfer and ardent football and cricket follower.


Sarah Marin, Director of Operations, Capita Travel and Events
Sarah has seven years’ corporate travel industry experience. As part of the senior leadership team at Capita Travel and Events, her role involves working strategically with customers, suppliers and colleagues to develop online and offline travel and event management solutions.

With over 12 years’ operational management experience in business to business and business to consumer environments, Sarah recognises that investing in people is critical to operational success. Her passion for nurturing talent helps ensure that career paths are built, customer expectations are achieved or exceeded, and new opportunities to enhance traveller experiences are continuously developed.

As the 2016 winner of the Rising Star award, Sarah is looking forward to joining the People Awards judging panel in 2017.


Jamie Barker, vice president - Regional European Travel Manager for Barclays PLC

Jamie manages operational teams and a number of key business stakeholder relationships in 21 countries with 85,000 employees. In March 2013, Jamie received the GBTA Project ICARUS Gold medal award for CSR and travel related reduction of CO² emissions. In September, he was awarded GBTA European Outstanding Achievement Award for sustainability in business travel and meetings across Europe.


Ken McLeod, Director of Industry Affairs, Advantage Travel Partnership

Ken has more than 40 years' experience in the travel industry. He joined Advantage in July 2004 and served as Corporate Director on the Board until August 2016, where he is now Director of Industry Affairs. McLeod began his career at the former Scottish multiple travel agent AT Mays involved in retail and the corporate travel sectors, and in subsequent years worked in tour operating, wholesale air sales and consortia, before returning to the corporate sector. During his time with Advantage he has been involved in several industry bodies including the Association of ATOL Companies (AAC) and is currently Vice President of the Scottish Passenger Agents Association (SPAA).


Barbara Kolosinska, sales director at C&M Travel Recruitment
With almost 18 years’ experience, Barbara has worked extensively in the travel industry and has established herself and C&M as one of the key providers of staff into the business travel sector. With a real passion travel, Barbara started her career at Air Jet selling into the TMCs and then moved into a sales role for Holiday Autos, selling into the tour operators and other leisure travel companies. She has been at C&M for 14 years and has played a key role in the company's growth and success.
Alongside her role at C&M, she also sits on the Board of Directors at the Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT). Barbara was included in Women 1st’s Top 100 Most Influential Women in Hospitality, Leisure, Travel & Tourism in 2011.


Deborah Short, global travel manager for insurance broker Willis

She is responsible for programme strategy, stakeholder management, procurement, communications and operations. She manages a multi-million dollar budget, providing services to 17K colleagues in 40+ countries, including airline, hotel, rental car, ground transportation, and travel technology. She previously spend more than decade at Pfizer where she lead was the travel category in EMEA.


Lewis Claxton – Global Procurement Director – 3i

Lewis is head of 3i Group’s procurement and property division. He has a track record in building, developing and leading best-in-class procurement teams, primarily focussed on indirect spend categories and delivering procurement solutions for the private equity company’s of companies. In addition to 3i’s procurement function, Lewis is responsible for 3i’s global office estate, corporate travel, office services and contingency planning. Prior to joining 3i, Lewis worked for BT plc in its procurement division, specialising in property and IT procurement. He has an MBA (with distinction) from Birmingham University and is CIPS qualified.
